During National Productivity Week 2026 the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) has drawn attention to the Good Practice Guide on Efficiency Savings published by the Jersey Audit Office as a useful resource to support productivity.
Aimed predominantly at Government but equally relevant to businesses more widely, the Guide highlights that efficiencies are secured through the smart spending and resource allocation – either by spending less to achieve the same or greater outputs and outcomes, or by achieving greater outputs and outcomes for the same level of spend.
It sets out practical approaches to maximise success in identifying and implementing efficiency savings opportunities, including identifying efficiencies, planning to achieve efficiencies and embedding efficiency gains.
It emphasises that efficiency savings opportunities can be identified at every stage of a service or function and that it is not a ‘one-off’ process, with the best performing organisations creating a culture where staff routinely evaluate efficiency.
Highlighting efficiency savings opportunities in key areas such as budgeting, digital, service evaluation, planning and delivery; and procurement – the Guide provides a sample evaluation framework and an example checklist – plus points for reflection, which are intended to help secure successful efficiency savings initiatives, leading to increased efficiency and productivity.
